CHUBB Fire and Security Fuel Levy

What is this all about?
It is about Chubb the Security Company and it might not affect you directly because you are with another Security Service Provider, but it might affect somebody near to you so please read on.
Chubb has this morning given notice that they are adding a “fuel levy” to my monthly account. The first question is off course whether the contract I entered into with Chubb allows it or not. If it allows them to do so that provision was never explained to me and that brings the Consumer Protection Act into play.
This “fuel levy” sounds very much like the e-tolling system. Chubb is trying to cover the deficit in their operational budget by tolling us or as they veil it as a “fuel levy”.
The current amount is just R6,84 less than a cigarette or a beer, hear you say. BUT BUT like in everything fairy tale there is a but.
BUT CHUBB reserves the right to revise this levy (or toll) so if the oil price goes up so will the “fuel levy” and as we all know once a price goes up it never comes down.
What should we do?
Inform CHUBB by registered letter that you are not prepared to be led by the nose and that you are not prepared to be part of their silly money making scheme; and that you are not paying the “fuel levy”; and
Cancel your monthly stop order so that Chubb cannot just go ahead and deduct the fuel levy from your bank account; and
Forward this message to as many South Africans as possible as R6,00 will surely escalated to an enormous amount of “fuel levy”, money that I don’t have.
If Gauteng could stop the e-toll, we can surely stop this highway robbery!
